2012-13 College Football Bowl Pool Spreadsheets

Sorry for the wait, folks. Here are this year's college football bowl season pool files. Enjoy!

For the uninitiated, the "Summary" file is the one the manager of the pool will use to keep track of everyone's picks and points. The "Entry Form" is the file the manager of the pool sends out to the participants, so they can make picks and assign points. Then the manager can copy-paste them into the "Summary" file.

Also, I routinely get requests for a version of this file with room for more participants. While I haven't updated the "expanded" version to this year's teams and bowls yet, you can yourself. Here's where I posted that version:

UPDATED: I've since fixed the issue some folks (who've commented on this post) were having relative to picks not being displayed in the Individual Charts tab for users #21 and above. I've also added in the feature requested by one commenter for calculating negative confidence points for incorrect picks. Good idea, I thought. I added a user option to select either "Zero" or "Negative" for points for incorrect picks. Check it out.

Used this spreadsheet last year. Very awesome! Will you be updating for the 2012-13 bowl season? If so, when?

Ooops! Fixed that post. I'd not changed the links to the new files. Derp!

Stupid question: what prevents someone from wagering the highest number of points on each game they pick?

Is the goal to get as close as possible to your possible points or have the highest total?

Oh, I guess someone could if the pool admin let it happen. The idea, though, is to only use each "confidence point" level once. The game you feel most confident in your pick, you'd use 35, then 34, etc. To make it so a user can only enter each value once requires some VBA, which i felt complicates it unnecessarily. It could be done, though.

Great stuff. Thank you!

This is by far the best College Football Pool spreadsheet on the internet! Kudos to you for putting this out again.

I made great use of last year's spreadsheet. I love the level of fanatical detail those additional summary charts provide. Many thanks!

For some reason, after I pick a hypothetical winner of a game, the red/green color scheme only shows up on the entries that I manually entered (not copy/paste). Any idea on how to fix that?

By the way, I've been using this spreadsheet for many years and it's amazing. I always give your blog a big shout out. Thanks for doing this - it's the highlight of our holiday season!

Make sure you're only copy-pasting the single columns into the Summary sheet. And, it wouldn't hurt to use the Paste Special... Values option.

am having the same issue as anonymouse. In the individual chart tab no picks are copying over from participant 21 and on. It seems to be recognizing the correct point values and pick, just not the text.

As everyone else has said. This spreadshett is the bee's knees.

Hey Garret and Anonymous, I've fixed the Individual Chart problem for Participants 21 and higher. Just some bad copy-pasting. Should work now if you re-download the Summary sheet. Thanks for the kudos and sorry for the bug. Later, Excel_Geek

I'm in a pool that deducts your confidence points for your incorrect picks. Any way to adjust the spreadsheet accordingly?

I just updated the spreadsheet to include the option of having incorrect picks be calculated as negative confidence points (as opposed to zero). You can pick way you want it to work.

Hi I'm having the same problem with participants 21 and higher and also the colors not appearing on all of the participants picks. I re-downloaded the summary sheet, however, what is the best/easiest way to transfer the picks from the sheet with the bugs on to the new summary? Thanks so much in advance!

Copy-paste is the easiest way. If I were you I'd copy each participants picks and points columns (two columns), copy, then paste them in the new one. Repeat for each participant. You might get things jacked up if you try to do them all at once. (then again, you might not.)

Thank you very much for following up on my comment about negative points and incorporating it into the spreadsheet. You are a lifesaver!!!

The pool I'm in has special "Bonus" games (ex. an NBA or NFL game etc.) This spreadsheet is great, im just not able to use it. So is there anyway to add the extra games in?

Collin, I've protected the worksheets but not with passwords. Anyone with the desire and some Excel know-how can modify this to their heart's content.

Geek,

Thanks for putting this together, great job. I've added a ranking page to it that you might want to consider adding to next years. Everyone seems to love it.

@Stevemcdo: i'd love to see it. feel free to email to me at ehunzeker the at symbol gmail the dot symbol com.
