The 2013-14 College Football Bowl Pool Spreadsheet is here!

Sorry it took me a bit longer than normal to get this out. I usually stay up on Bowl Selection Sunday and get this delivered.

This year, thankfully, there were no material changes to the bowl game line-up. We still have 35 games. Three of the games did get new sponsors, though:

  • The former MAACO Bowl Las Vegas becomes the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.
  • The former Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl becomes the National University Holiday Bowl.
  • The former Discover BCS National Champtionship becomes the VIZIO BCS National Championship.
As usual there are two files. The first is the "Summary" -- this is the one that pool organizers use to track how everyone's picks are doing vs. actual results. the second is the "Entry Form" -- this is the file that pool organizers send to their participants for them to make their picks and send it back. Pool organizers, remember to use Copy - Paste Special... Values when copy-pasting people's picks in to the Summary.

Here are your files:

Enjoy!

UPDATED: I received feedback from a number of you today that my NOT initially including the traditional picks and points for me (Excel_Geek) and my wife (Mrs. Excel_Geek) and the recently added Excel_Geek Jr. was UNACCEPTABLE. It turns out many of you like to gauge how you're doing by comparing your picks to ours. Also, some of you apparently find it funny that I rarely do better than my wife (or even last year my son.)

The Summary form now has all three of our picks and points included. Do please enjoy!

Looks great! You must have put a lot of effort into making it. Very detailed and informative. Is there a way to disable the point system? I am going to use this for an office bowl pick using a straight pick.
Thanks for posting this and, again, great job!

@ E. Hughes:

Sure. Just use a point value of 1 for all of the picks. It'll highlight them to help you realize you've used 1 more than once, but it'll still work.

Thanks again for creating this sheet. I use if for a family pool and we only have 13 participants. I can't for the life of me expose the top 8 rows in tab 2 so I can edit the date to make the group chart only have the 13 participants on the bottom axis. Hints?

How do you add more participants? Fabulous sheet!

Both the workbook and worksheets are protected, but not with passwords. Simply unprotect them, and display headers, and you can play around.

Anonymous, add more participants? You'd also have to unprotect and unhide stuff, but there's a great deal more work involved in what you want to do. How many participants are we talking about?

Great work as always! I've been using this spreadsheet for many years and it always brings all of our friends and family much enjoyment. I also make sure to give your website a shout out.

Like Anonymous, I'm looking to add 20 more participants, can you walk me through how to do this?

Anonymous(2),

If you're not fairly adept in Excel, this may not be something you can readily do. What you'll need to do is unprotect the workbook and all worksheets, unhide a hidden "summary_chart_data" worksheet, unhide some of the hidden rows/columns to really see how stuff works. then the task will be copy pasting participant columns in the PICKS sheet, copy-pasting more users into the now unhidden summary_chart_data worksheet, inserting rows and copy-pasting code as you go in the Game Charts sheet for each game, adding in the 20 new users. Then you'll need to copy-paste and modify to add more users on the Individual Charts worksheet. then you need to rehide rows/columns, that one worksheet, and reprotect everything. If printing this info is valuable to you, you'll also likely have to make some page setup modifications to get things to still look nice printed. If it seems like a lot, it kind of is. Given that two of you have already asked for it, i may spend some time to add more users myself. No guarantees, though...

Yeah, I'm awful at excel. What I've done in past years is fill out two control sheets and consolidate as the bowl season goes along to keep the top 50 or 40 in the loop. Because of your great work every year, we've taken our bowl pool from about ten to over 60! Thanks for all of your work and if you do add more participants it would most certainly be appreciated!

Another way, which works, after un-protecting the worksheet is to save the file as Excel workbook, since the format of this file is created in an excel 2003 format, which limits the amount of info....thus only giving you to column IV. If in Excel workbook, you can add a boatload more of columns....up to Row XFD....do the math, its too late for me to!

I have also altered my page, so I have an A column and a B column, so when I enter data, I just go down my sheet pressing A or B. This makes it easier to put the picks in....just my preference.

I was able to add more columns for more picks entries, but was unable to modify the data charts. Any suggestions? Stops at 39.

I'm definitely willing to chip in some extra $ if we could get a version with some more players!

Awesome job on this. Is there anyway to add a point spread? Thanks.

This is awesome. I can tell you have spent some time designing it. As an "Excel Geek" myself, I can appreciate the effort that went into this. Thanks!

Hello, thanks again for doing this each year, I can't tell you how much we appreciate it.

I'm having some trouble unhiding the hidden "summary_chart_data" worksheet, even after unprotecting each sheet. The workbook itself doesn't appear to be protected either.

Thanks again!

Hello,

Please disregard my previous comment, I have discovered how to "unprotect" and unhide the sheet in question.

Thank you.

Just a suggestion for next year, maybe add a "Standings" page that would format the current standings after each game, showing what place you're in, Name, # of wins, # of losses, Total points, & total points possible into 6 columns. I think it would make it easier than to scroll through all the entries and sort the points into a different format. Just an idea! Thanks for the great spreadsheet!

THANK YOU....I have used your football confidence pool for several years with friends and co-workers. It is very easy to set up all the participants and track their progress through each of the bowl games. I appreciate the simplicity of organizing so many players. It makes the job of commissioner very easy.

Cant wait to see the sheets for the 2015-16 bowls! They are always such a HUGE help!
