Anyone remember that simple NFL weekly pool template I made for someone back in 2009 and shared with everyone? Well, someone did. And he asked if I could spruce it up a bit.
I've added a tab for each of the 17 weeks of the season, pre-filled in the matchups, added 45 more participant row (total of 75 now), added cumulative correct picks tracking from week to week, and added a quick sort by most cumulative wins button on each week. I thought it turned out pretty awesome.
Also, since I've already got my $50 bucks from the guy who requested this, and since I gave it away (to everyone, not just my Excel_Geek Insiders, who get copies of every $50 Project I do) I thought I'd go ahead and let everyone have this one, too.
Heck, I guess I'm in the giving mood!
UPDATED: Ooops! I initially forgot to link to the file! Here it is.
Enjoy, folks.
Excel_Geek
P.S. Excel_Geek Insiders, I'll go ahead and email you a link to the download, as I do for each $50 Project.

This is a great spreadsheet you have (looking at the 2009 version). I have a question regarding filling it. As the sheet is currently I have to fill in the picks (by each participant) by hand; which is a lot of filling in. Is there a way to motify the sheet where the HOME team is given a value, say 1, and the AWAY team is given a value, 2.
Which allows me to email the picks in a specific order, the participant makes his picks using 1s and 2s, and I copy and paste the picks into the sheet using the 1s and 2s which then fill in for the team?

Or,
Where the results can be "pasted" in.
Such as a list like this,
DEN
NE
CHI
MIA
ATL
that can be posted into 'Person 1' and then have that fill.
Ok so i am using your NFL sheet, and i noticed that when i send it out to my participants, they click their picks and send it back to me. If i copy and paste it into a master sheet it won't interact with the win/loss change over to green and it won't tally up the points. If I manually enter each person's pick it does everything correctly.
I was wondering what would be the best way to send the sheet out to people so they can easily pick their winners and then send it back to me and i can copy their picks while keeping the integrity of the macros and such?
Try copy-paste special... Values on a column by column basis and see if that works better.
That worked!! Very nice thank you!!
actually it works just by copy and paste(no need for special) but just column by column not entire rows.
I could probably redesign a bit to enable the mass copy paste, and even create a companion sheet for individual participants to input their picks and email them to you...
Up to you. I basically sent a blank sheet and they fill in their lines and email me back the same sheet. i then made a master sheet that i copy/paste their line into the master and then email everyone back the master one at the end of the week, before the games start so everyone can play along as the games happen.
Also using this amazing sheet, thanks man. Also having issues with the copy paste. I read the comments but for some reason am still struggling on not only emailing a working sheet but copy and pasting. Any advice i would GREATLY appreciate. Thanks in advance.
This NFL excel is amazing, thanks so much. I am also having an issue with the individual email sheet and copy and pasting. Any advice to make this work I would greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.
What is the need for macros?
What is the point of the macros?
What's the point of the macro's in the sheet?
The macros are just there to enable a quick, one-click resort of each sheet by total points.
I am new to using excel...
I downloaded this spreadsheet and when I go to week two it no longer highlights the win/loss teams green or red and doesn't add the points from the previous week to the total year points.
How can I fix this?
thanks
@jstew460: i think maybe you're not doing something right. Feel free to email me your copy of the sheet at ehunzeker [at] gmail [dot] com. I'll see what's up.
I have a suggestion to this sheet, nothing too crazy. Is there a way I can email you my thoughts to have this added to this awesome spread?
sure. just send me a note to the email address i gave in my previous comment on this post.
This is a good spreadsheet. I was wondering if you could make it do 1 more thing. We run a confidence pool. That's where you have to number the winners from 1-16, or however many games due to bye week. You put 16 on most confident to win and and 1 on least confident. Fill in the rest of the winners with remaining numbers. Then the sheet would keep a running total of the games each week based on your confidence points.
Can you add more rows? I am running an office pool with over 100 entries each week.
I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure
of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so
people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for
only having 1 or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
My blog post; szybkie opony
I am trying to convert this into a college weekly pick-em. How can I make the columns wider so I can fit more stuff into it. It is not letting me do that and when I send it out no one can open it.
To widen the columns you first need to view the column headings. Go to View and re-check Headings. The next thing you need to do is unprotect the worksheet. Go to Review and click Unprotect Worksheet (it's not password protected.) Now you can widen to your heart's content. You may want to at least re-protect the worksheet when you're done to make sure folks don't muck it up. I'll be getting an update to the NFL version soon...
Great sheet from 2013. Do you have an estimate for when 2014 will be done and can be bought?
Mike A, it's already ready. Check my latest post (click the blog title at the top).
