At long last, I've completed this season's NFL Pick 'Em pool. Some of you have diligently been pestering me for weeks now. I am truly sorry to make you wait up to the night before opening game. Truly. That said, I had an ambitious list of new features -- several that have been requested for a few years now -- to integrate into the old spreadsheet.
For example, many, many of you wanted the ability to not just pick winners and losers, but to pick against the spread. Done. This is now an option on the all new Settings tab. Selecting this option will un-grey-out a new row where you input each game's favorite and point spread, which is then taken in to account when determining correct picks.
Similarly, lots of you have requested support for a Confidence Points system -- so not all games counted for the same amount of points if picked correctly. Not only this, but some of you wanted a traditional "1-X" system where you assigned 1 point to a game, 2 points to another, 3 to another, all the way up to 16 or however many games there are to pick that week. Others wanted a "Pool of Points" system wherein you start with a defined pool of points that you must spread across all of that weeks games as you see fit. I've added support for both. Enabling Confidence points of either type will un-grey-out new columns next to each participants picks in which to input their confidence points, which are then taken into account when calculating overall weekly points.
Also, lots of you wanted more capacity for participants. 100 wasn't enough. I've upped it to 300. I could keep adding more capacity, but it comes at a file size trade-off. I'm already up to over 3 MB now!
I did a few other things, too, like cleaning up and exposing the Schedule tab. Many of you have expressed interest in a college football pick 'em. Well, just un-protect (it's not password protected) and change that Schedule tab to whichever games you like. I also fixed the often reported bug with the sorting buttons. Those should work now. Finally, one this I didn't do this year is create the companion "picks" version of the sheet. No one ever really said it was that helpful, and it was just something else to maintain. If you need a way to have your participants easily send you their picks, they can just use the same file -- sorry again, about that 3 MB file size.
Without further ado, here's the file: 2015-16_NFL_Weekly_Football_Pool.xlsm
More than a handful of folks, as they were pinging, pestering, checking-in with me offered to pay me or donate to me for the sheet. This, like the college bowl pool sheet I do, I do for free. That said, if you are so compelled to contribute to my son's college saving plan, feel free to PayPal me whatever you like. PayPal just recently launched this great new feature called PayPal.me that makes it really easy to request any amount:
$5.00
$10.00
$25.00
$50.00
Really you just have to change that dollar amount in the URL -- https://paypal.me/excelgeek/50.
Anyways...please enjoy this year's NFL Pick 'Em. If you encounter a bug or need help with using the sheet, let me know.
Later,

Looks like the Winner Row is locked.
@Mike A, it's locked, yes. You must enter a score for the game and it calculates the winner. I realize this may not be ideal for those not worried about the score and spreads, etc., but in order for the sheet to accommodate both, changing it this way made the most sense.
makes sense! thanks for the help
I can not enter names or points on it at all
I cant enter names or points for picks at all.
@Jeff Frasher, I'll need a bit more detail on what you're seeing. Feel free to email me at my first initial and last name @ gmail (dot) com. My name is Eric Hunzeker.
I have a feeling you may simply not be understanding some of the options. If you're trying to use point spreads, you need to select that option in the Settings Tab to un-grey-out that part of the sheet. If you're trying to use confidence points for each person's picks, you have to enable that option on the Settings Tab to un-grey-out that part of the sheets. If you're trying to enter participant names on any sheet but Week 1, you can't. The rest of the weekly sheets simply reference the names on Week 1. If you're still having issues, email me.
I put my picks in and it calculated the winners but it isn't giving or totaling the points in the right hand columns. I just get #REF! I've saved as a Macro enabled file and enable macros when it opens but it's no use.
@Clyade Walters, any way you can send me the file so I can take a look. Look in my comment above to see my email.
I sent you the file from my @aol.com account. I hope you got it and can help me.
Did you get the file I sent you? It would have come from Clydew**** @ aol. Do you think I should just try re downloading it? Maybe there was a hiccup during the download. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Never mind. Re downloading it solved the problem. For now LOL.
Yeah, Clyde, something happened to your original file. Somehow a reference in a formula that calculates won points was broken. Might you have accidentally or intentionally deleted some columns or rows or cells not knowing that it'd break stuff? No one else so far has had that issue that I'm aware of. Anyway, I'm glad you got it figured out.
This doesn't seem to take the spreads into account.
For instance this past week Indy was a 2.5 favorite and Indy won by 2 points but the spreadsheet has Indy as a winner.
Great job on the sheet.
@Graham Wright, thanks for the feedback, Graham. I think I understand what you're saying. You see that IND shows up in the Winner row at the top, right? Well, they did win the game, but only by 2 points, which you can see immediately to the right of IND in that same row. You should also see, if you'd picked IND below in your participant row, that it's shaded RED, indicating that IND was the wrong pick, since they didn't cover the spread, and no points were awarded. I hope this clears things up. Later,

Thanks Excel_Geek Great job.
i started using your 2014-2015 NFL sheet but on week 4 the cumulative points stopped working. any fix to this? thanks
@Anonymous using the 2014-1015 version...why don't you use the 2015-2016 version?
i am going to.....just didnt want to have to go back through and re-do 4 weeks. i guess thats better then realizing this at week 12 huh lol.
hey bro.......just FYI the cumulative points stop adding up at week 8 and continue on to week 9 etc. can you look at this please. thanks your the best!
@Rex, are you sure you're using the 2015-2016 version? That was a bug in prior version that I fixed. If you're sure, feel free to shoot me over the sheet, and I'll look at it. I use gmail and my first initial and last name. My name is Eric Hunzeker.
Are you going to release a 2015-2016 College Bowl sheet again this year? Thanks!
Are you going to be releasing a 2015-2016 College Bowl sheet? Thanks!
Yeah, I'm working on it. I've been really swamped, though...i'll get it out before games start.
