2022-23 NFL Pick 'Em Pool Files Are Ready!

Folks, I've completed and released this season's NFL Pick 'Em pool. I actually got this done before too many of you had to pester me! All I had to do to make this year's version from last year's was to update to the 2022-2023 schedule. Seems too easy. I did test the automatic score pulling feature, and it seems to be good, but, as always, just let me know if things don't seem to be working.

Like years past, there's also a companion "Picks" sheet to distribute to pool participants, so they can simply email back the file for the admins to copy-paste into the master sheet. Just remember to always copy, paste special... values when moving their picks into the master sheet, so as to not jack up formatting or other stuff.

Without further ado, here are the files:

Remember, this NFL pick 'em sheet, like the college bowl pool sheet I do, I do for free. That said, if you just _have to_ do something for me for my efforts, feel free to PayPal me whatever you like:

$5.00     $10.00     $25.00     $50.00

Really you just have to change that dollar amount in the URL -- https://paypal.me/excelgeek/50.

Anyways...please enjoy this year's NFL Pick 'Em. If you encounter a bug or need help with using the sheet, let me know.

Later,

Excel_Geek

I cant seem to download from the link, can you check it to make sure it works?

@Anonymous RE: can't seem to download from the link...

Try opening the link in an incognito window or using the "save link as..." option. Should be fine. Sometimes Google outsmarts itself thinking there's a security issue because the one file has embedded macros.

I am having the same problem...getting a message that says the file is not safe to download and won't let me download it. What is an "incognito window" because it won't let me save link as either.

@Andrew RE: download issues...

If you're using Chrome as your browser, right click on the download link and select "Save link as..." You'll get a "... can't be downloaded securely" message. Use the menu in that pop-up and select "Keep." It should download, and it is a safe file to download.

Can you do one for college football? Please. Ready to pay if you will.

Excel_Geek said...

@Unknown RE: college football... I'd consider it. Would I just get to pick the 10 or 20 or however many games each week? There are so many games.

Unknown said...

I believe you did one in the past. In that one you had it where I could pick the games. Example: Week 1 : I inputed the home and away team for first game. and so on for the rest of the 16 games.

I downloaded it from excel_geek.

It was published August 11, 2017. The one I used for so long.

@Unknown RE: college football pick 'em... Is the issue that the automated score updating no longer works?

Automated scoring and some new teams are not listed.

Looking for a confidence pool spreadsheet that would only include the Thursday Night games where the player would have to pick the winners of each Thursday night game before the season starts. The assigned confidence points would be awarded if the player picked the correct winner.
I could enter the schedule myself and could possibly work with the Monday night game and Sunday night game. Is this even possible?

Excel_Geek said...

@Andrew RE: confidence pool for Thursday night games... Anything's possible, but if you're actually asking if I could build a custom one for you, I don't think I'll have time before the season gets rolling, for sure. I think you could get pretty close using my standard NFL pick 'em pool, though. You'd just enter all of the Thursday games as the games in Week 1 (you'd only get 16 weeks worth of games, though) and then opt to use confidence points. ~\_O_/~

Thanks for getting back to me...I'll try to download it again but the last time I tried it wouldn't let me do it and can't remember the reason why. And I think you're right in that it may be too late to get it set up.

Andrew said...

I was actually able to download it but I have run into some errors because I have Excel 2010 and I noticed that the requirement is Excel 2016. Can the macros be opened for editing, not that I can probably fix the problem but I could at least give it a shot. I also assume that I would then be able to change the schedule?

Got my spreadsheets mixed up on my last post. Go this one downloaded but I can't make any changes to the schedule on the schedule tab as it says it is closed. How do I get it opened to enter the Thursday Night Games in Week 1.

@Andrew RE: unprotecting the schedule sheet... Just go to the Review menu when you're on that sheet and select Unprotect Sheet. There's no password.

Andrew said...

Got it, thanks and I see where it is tracking the point totals for the season which is what I would need. I assume that if I wanted to display standings I would save the spreadsheet as a web page?

Excel_Geek said...

@Andrew RE: displaying standings... I'm not sure what you're envisioning by "display standings". You could always sort by points in the sheet, hide a bunch of columns and snip a picture of the current standings and save as an image.

Andrew said...

Got, thanks. Appreciate your help on this.

Realized i asked this question on last years post instead of this year. The "Favorites" row doesnt show the text when favorite is opted for and spread put in. It shows it in the formula bar though so I know it is there. I assume the color is the same for the text and background fill but it can't be changed. Sorry for the double posts but any help is appreciated.

Excel_Geek said...

@Unknown RE: Favorites row being greyed out... That's by design. Go to the Settings tab and select to use "Vs. Spreads" vs. "Straight Picks" in the Pick Type field, and that row will come to life for you. Enjoy!

Hello i tried to unprotect it and its asking for a password. ALso, how can i email the actual picks.

Thanks

Excel_Geek said...

@Unwise RE: unprotecting... I'm not sure what you're seeing. The individual sheets are protected, but not with a password. The workbook is protected, but not with a password, and the VBA (macros) project is not protected.

RE: emailing picks... What do you mean? How it's envisioned to work is that a participant in the pool will make their picks in the "picks" version of the file and then email that file to the pool administrator to input (copy-paste special values, always) into the "master" file.

When can we start pestering you about 2022-2023 college bowl games?

Kage said...

Can I change how much a game is worth points wise on the playoff games?

Excel_Geek said...

@Kage RE: changing how much a game is worth in the playoffs...

If you've got your settings set to "Use Confidence Points" = No, then all the games are worth one point. You could switch that setting to yes, then set "Confidence Points Type" = "Pool of Points" then set the "Confidence Points Pool" to the sum of the value of the points you'd like to award for each game. Should still work after changing mid-way through the season. Good luck!

Will you be posting a 2023-2024 Pickem Sheet? This is an epic file that has helped me manage our friendly pickem group.

Shane said...

Are you doing this again this year?

When are you coming out with the NFL 23-24 Spreadsheets?

Will there be a new spreadsheet for the 23-24 season?

Hello,
I updated the new schedule into the old 2022-2023 sheet. Will there be any other changes to the new sheet? It looked like I needed to change the year in the “score parsing sheet” to retrieve scores, so I did. Will it work? Thanks for this sheet; used to use a lot but then not at all for the last 4 yrs. If you want the new schedule sheet, let me know how I can get it to you. It tools some time to type in, but I’m sure you have some automated populating system.

I can’t access the schedule to update for this year season. Are you putting out a 2023 season?

Todd DuBrey said...

Hey there! Just wondering if you were going to do one for this year (23-24)

Thank you!

T.J. in Ohio said...

To the anonyomous poster who updated the old sheet with the new schedule, would you be willing to share what you are working with some of us? armstrongtj [@] gmail if so.

Thanks!

I THINK THIS IS HOW YOU UPDATE THE SHEET

THE VERY LAST SHEET IS THE SCHEDULE. I THINK YOU JUST HAVE TO UPDATE THE TEAMS AND IT CHANGES IT ON THE MASTER. IM NOT SURE IF IT WILL STILL PULL SCORES OR IF YOU WILL HAVE TO INPUT THE SCORES MANUALLY EACH WEEK BUT I BELIEVE THIS WILL WORK I WILL REPORT BACK AFTER WEEK ONE AND TELL EVERYONE MY FINDINGS

This year's files are out! (https://blog.excelgeek.com/2023/09/2023-24-nfl-pick-em-pool-files-are-ready.html) Sorry for the delay, and thanks to those of you who'd jumped in to help folks out when it looked as though I wouldn't come through. Sorry for the last-minute delivery.

IS THERE SOMEWHERE IT SHOWS THE TOTAL SCORE FOR THE WEEK FOR THE GAMES?
(ADD THE TOTAL OF THE CORRECT GAMES)
